My job brings me into regular contact with Vietnamese here in Australia, they are usually 2nd and 3rd generation of refugees who came here after the war and 99% of the time their properties are always overgrown and full of junk and clutter.

A few years back I went to Vietnam for a holiday and it was exactly the same. Literal rice paddies and houses next to gigantic coal power stations, and the family mausoleum plonked right in the middle of the paddies on an island. Junk everywhere.

While I was staying in HCMC, I had a hotel view over what had to be the only vacant plot of green land for several miles around. There were about 7 bus loads of newlyweds using it as a background for their wedding photos. Meanwhile on the other side of the plot, pedestrians were using it as an open toilet.

I will still take Viets over Chinese tho. They are on another level.
