The approach looks very good to me. What he does is called a turn-around. You do this when something appears to endanger a safe landing; and of course you practice it as well. But though, this one was very close: Look at the hook hanging from the rear, this should connect to the ropes on the floor and it's just about centimeter away. So I think it was not planned.
