So please stop with the retarded jokes

no it does not
1. youd propably cut off your hand in the middle of the fight or
2. laser goes through the metal so if the laser sword hits the edge between the little side lasers and the main laser of the sword it will go right through and cut your swortd as well as your hand/fingers

However there are things lightsabers cannot cut. Its a small list but
Mandalorian Iron
Phrik alloy
Cortosis Weave
Electrum
Sith Alchemy enhanced armor or swords
Armorweave(Protection for a very limited time)
Lightfoil(Weaker than sabers, though better than vibroblades)

It probably has vents because it is an unstable crystal

no. that would be one of the worst lightsabers ever made if it was like that for ventilation.

It wont prevent anything cause its not a round guard going all around the light saber and you dont fight with a light saber like you fight with a sword, you would if it had an edge but its all edge so this shitguard, even if its lightsaber resistant, actually restrains physically all the movements he can do because he could hurt himself, and meantally because he would have to fight with his lightsaber as if it was a sword if he wants to block properly. A guard like this one but with 3 or 4 lasers would be much more effective. http://www.theverge.com/tldr/2014/11/28/7303233/please-hire-me-jj
Also you are wrong.

Having a hilt sword myself, I can honestly say that dude has fake hands. I've cut my wrist twice while learning how to carry and properly swing one. Probably a fake arm too. Like I'm sure he's great with that sword now, but serious, his whole right arm is gone. Also, what's the point of having different variants of swords if no one wears armor resistant to said weapon? The reason swords got bigger in our history was due to the increase of armor. The more armor you had, the more force you needed to cut the joints. I could understand making one lighter and faster (if that's possible), but making it heavier and extremely dangerous to yourself seems rather idiotic. And if the sword's hilt were made of a material resistant to light sabers, why not make the whole thing a hell of a lot less dangerous and just make the hilt totally said material.
TL;DR - Sword was designed poorly.

In case of star wars the bad guy or yoda needs to say "strong you have become, the dark side I feel in you" while locking swords.

The crossguard is not flush with the hilt, and protrudes out, so it's pretty pointless and won't do anything if another lightsaber blade slides down that one. They worked in the medieval times because they were made properly.
SuperDuperNoob · 1 points · 10 years ago
If you locked swords close to your body, you'd most likely cut into your own body with your cross guard. You can't always control the angle of the cross guard m8.

Its still retarded.
a) because Star wars was always about realism (not.)
b) i cant stop thinking about micky mouse
c) you can try to explain it howewer you want but they did it just because they think it looks more cool this way which is super cheesy. Also if this is optimal shape they didnt remember to do it before? Too many holes. In the cheese.

since the teaser came out I am very sceptical about the new movie ...
Bobthened · 1 points · 10 years ago
the problem people have is the fact that, if one looks closely at the design of the crossguard, there is fatal flaw. If an opponent were to slide their lightsabre directly down the edge of this blade they would first hit a piece of metal, their lightsabre would cut straight through.
Zimtauri · 1 points · 10 years ago
how about wearing a suit thats made from mirrors, lasers are nothing but light after all
Bobthened · 1 points · 10 years ago
lightsabre is not a laser, and it is the heat of a laser that is dangerous a mirror would not work
crowblade · 1 points · 10 years ago
GUIZE, the main reason for this to be added into the movie is: it looks cool and standard lightsaber is too old. At least they thought so.
Also, this has been in the star wars universe for ages, it's just the first time in a movie.
