Every telegram account from countries that don't have freedom of speech tells me their country is better of than mine.
W-what? N-no, I'm not planing to move there.

No, you dont understand. The government is pro-communism because it doesn't allow me to lynch black people.

The resistance narrative, the image of a public enemy, the idea of heroism will always agitate people and drive support. Regardless of affiliation, you will find it in the agenda of people and groups, who want to define themselves as "good".
Then again, people and groups might fight against something "bad", and not be confrontational, so it's not as simple as that.

This applies almost universally to everyone. All political corners see themselves as the good ones fighting some sort of evil on the other end of the spectrum.
Think about it, if you have some strong opinions, do you think your side is the good one and the other side is somehow evil and needs to be stopped?

None of that conflicts with what I said. On the contrary.
At the same time, I don't have a public image of myself to define.

In general, it is the desire to be perceived as victims. This is something that exemplifies our time, and there are a lot of examples, e.g. Christians in the USA crying about persecution, white people in Western European countries being "victimized" by non-white immigrants, etc.
