I have more money saved than I have in liquid assets with more than half of my house paid off, with some other plans to keep myself and wife supplied with money into retirement. I'm in the 60% that's actually smart.

You will own nothing and be happy.
But for real, the goal is inverse depression in which they devalue currencies, wages don’t raise and the expense of things skyrockets, forcing middle-upper class to drain their savings to survive, or simply devalue the savings due to unmanageable inflation in such a drastic way that your savings only have a fraction of the buying power they once did.
Only way to save in the near future will be to invest in money making assets, as savings will get eaten up and deflated.

Boi ain't no way they're gonna be able to reliably retire at 65. Closer to 70-75 on a large margin id wager, if ever.
Keep in mind the ones that are hitting that retirement line and don't have savings simply won't retire

indeed.
There's something to be considered tho, retirement (officially at least) didn't went up just because people got older, but because we're currently supporting those early boomers that non only voted themselves some high easy rent, but also went between 55-60 instead of 65. Had they kept it at a reasonnable age, it wouldn't need to be increased now.
That and money....

Oh without a doubt, boomer policies ***ed over the generations after them. I'm waiting to buy a house when all these folks start dying - hopefully this puts a nice hole in the market for me to take up.

25 years is 40 in my book breh unfathomably far away
damnstraight · 1 points · 1 year ago
until you understand that it takes a really long time to build funds for your rent

Probably the same thing that happens to most boomers, most of them didn't have savings either. We'll engineer a way for social safety nets to pay for even more stuff. At least most boomers had children to lean on, God help us childless millenials.

I can't handle a lot of free time very good. Just loose structure and do nothing. Can't really see myself even wanting to retire at 65. Probably going to keep working/studying for as long as I can

We have that. People are just living longer than originally anticipated

meh
pensions are actually a relativly new thing, they didn't exist for most of our time on this planet and for most of the little time we had it the retirement age was way above the averange life expectancy
would suck to no longer have it for sure but its no reason to no longer live.
though if enough of them kill themself it would be easier to fund the pension of the rest

Proper clothing/housing/healthcare and high quality food and water widely available for the population are also relatively new things in the history of mankind. Perhaps we should go back to the time when you would pray god that your next year crops would be good enough to survive and when you would randomly die off the slightest disease caught by drinking unfiltered water

i didn't say we should return, just that its not a reason to kill myself.
and thats the same for all those things. it would suck to not have them but the fact that humans dealt with life without them before proves that life is not automatically not worth living just because its harder than now
