I recently visited the WWII Museum in New Orleans. They have a section of the museum that highlights the artist of this painting, Tom Lea. Its incredibly powerful stuff, and as a 28 year old who has never endured even a fraction of what these soldiers endured, I would highly recommend visiting the museum. Certainly puts life into perspective.
