Free tuition needs to be implemented slowly and not like this. Just canceling ***s over the value of people who for example choose to go to a cheaper less prestigious university or take a blue-collar job. They knew they would get a lower wage but instead not have to pay as much in loans.
If person 1 earns 40k and person 2 earns 60k but has to pay back 20k they have equal net income. If you pay p2:s debt you create a huge rift between those persons. P1 can no longer complete on the housing market with P2 etc. Good luck doing this without creating class divides and huge resentment.
This needs to be slowly implemented so everyone can make their choices knowing what it will lead to. Canceling is incredibly unfair, and what's the big difference to say canceling all mortgage - which I don't think the same people will agree with.
