And to further the mind-blowing properties of this discussion. During the infancy of the United States, areas such as New England and the Southern Colonies attempted to speak in the "new" high-class English accent in order to show off their wealth, but as the country grew, the fad died out and the Gen. Am. accent we know today spread. This explains why Bostonian, New Yorker, and some Southern accents omit the 'r', and account for those accents. They all pronounce Card as CAHD in some way or another.

When the english language first developed, it was defined by something called the Rhotic. This means that "r"s after vowels are pronounced. So if you say "Card" in an General American accent, it is CAR-D. But with the English acccent, you would say CAHD. The English accent developed less than 300 years ago, and what is currently viewed as North American English or an American accent (because we Americans tend to be a bit Amerocentric), is technically the original proper pronunciation of the English language.

Earth was formed by debris that coalesced under the influence of gravity sometime after our Sun ignited. And the Earth is 4.54 billion years old. And it's possible the bulk of the Rocky Mountain orogeny was more likely in the Early Cenozoic Era. Although the forces that initiated those structures began 350 million years ago.
I should have written my thesis about the scientific illiteracy in our schools...

What kind of class is this????

British Humour:
"You know what would be funny, Reg?"
"Hm?"
"A man dressed as a woman."
"Oh yes, ripping good laugh."

who cares? why do brits drive on the left? it's a tradition, and it'd be a pain to change it now. Same thing with our units of measurement.. it's really not a big deal... at all...
