You can't lose SC, they are deposited directly to your account. You can fail or quit the mission, it doesn't matter. The best grind for them is to go to diff 1, ignore the objective, get all the POIs, quit mission, repeat. It's boring as hell. Samples are a pretty big grind now that some mission types are removed, that's true.

I treat the game mostly as a puzzle, so I play a lot of d10 solo, but I won't deny that it can be absolutely miserable sometimes. It's not helped by some truly atrocious design. And you are absolutely correct, the mentality for buffs and nerfs is... fυcked. Talking about it any depth would take too long, but it's definitely in a not great state.

EDF is goated, but the grind is real.

A very common misunderstanding (or in worse faith, purposeful strawmanning) of why people are upset over the inclusion of these items in a paid warbond. And no, I'm not going the route of "This is already a paid $40 game", because that just makes it a question of value.

The actual problem is that the developers have abandoned any notion of bringing the playerbase together to achieve something in a galactic campaign mission objective. The original mechs were a reward for the playerbase coming together to overcome a hard challenge, something that used to be a regular occurrence. All MO rewards have disappeared, the last one we got was the incendiary barrage a year ago.

The backlash wouldn't be there to begin with if the developers hadn't let frustration at the state of the game simmer and boil over for the entire lifespan on the game. The more unheard and frustrated a playerbase is, the more they are going to pick apart the smallest things the developer studio does. While that patch included some long overdue changes that are positive, there was also a tremendous amount of changes that shows the studio no longer has any idea what is doing, hence the boil over.

EDIT: It also doesn't help that the inclusion of them as more paid content just adds the depleting faith when at launch the studio promised to never put any gameplay items in the paid store, just cosmetics. Then they added a sidearm, then several primaries (that are also the best in class of that weapon category), so it's a fairly natural logical step to conclude that the studio has no intent of improving the base game arsenal at this point.

That would be Babylon 5, Season 1, something like episode 11 or 12, specifically Mr. Morden.

Flamethrowers are used extensively here to keep overgrowth in check and perform controlled burns. They make for good tools.
