I have indeed heard that four leaves may be the result of environmental factors, rather than just genetics. But I'm not convinced it's the case for ALL four leaf clovers

I agree that since it's a mutation it will always be present in the population. I just believe that because these mutations are being selected out, they will be present at a much lower frequency, making them harder to find :)
