It's acutally not uncommon. The full blindness must've been a dissciation linked to a primarly morbid gain (and adherence due to advantages over secondary morbid gains). These points lose relevance with alzheymer advance and what remains is the real anatomical partial blindness. Hope it's understandable. I'm not a native speaker
