I'm French and I saw some news about this movie on national television. They presented it as a normal "growing-up" movie with young girls making some bad decisions. There was an interview with the director and she clearly talked about how this movie was made for parents to prevent these kinds of situations from happening.
So yeah it's completely Netflix's fault for misadvertising this movie.
This looks like a candid shot but knowing him it's probably staged, like almost all pictures of him. So this guy went through the trouble of taking that pic and told his photographer "Yep, publish it".
