Always good to know the basic maintanance but people can easily go overboard and become judgemental.
I think there is a fine line on how much is useful for you to do yourself (quite dependent on the availability and price of proffesional services in your area).
People spend years learning the nuances of the trade and have the professional tools to do the job. If I try to do that stuff on my own either the quality will suffer or the time investment on my part outweights their asking price. So why bother.
I'll help them earn a living and I can focus my time on things I actually enjoy doing.
