The Dreamcast is one of those rare systems that actually had an identity. As much as I've loved my PS2 and 360, their wide range of experiences made them traditional consoles. Without trying to sound too cheesy, Dreamcast felt like an art exhibit in that bad part of town.

SEGA's first part output took so many new and wonderful chances. Jet Set Radio, Chu Chu Rocket, Phantasy Star Online, Seaman, Shenmue. None of these games have anything in common, but in the grand scheme they stood out for being different. It raised the level of what exclusives could be, and in many ways, has never been surpassed.

Even Sega's attempts at more traditional genres such as Skies of Arcadia and Samba De Amigo were bursting with color and youthful excitement.

And this is the reason the Dreamcast has lived on. The games themselves exuded excitement. Which makes sense, SEGA had become an industry giant thanks to their bombastic arcade titles. For the first time, a home console could almost perfectly replicate the arcade experience. Rather than incite their players to put in another quarter, they create a vibrant atmosphere that felt like a celebration of video games.

For me, the Dreamcast will always be the most exciting console.
