I check on the internet because I do not remember correctly, so what I found is maybe another story (which is from 1993 not early 2000s

It was a prime minister: Bérégovoy. He had a strong depression, get for a walk to a canal and shoot himself with the gun of his bodyguard.
Two bullets were shot but according to all medical record only one hit him maybe he shot the first bullet in the air. (the "he gets two impacts" seem to be a fake new. Only one bullet hit him, except if you think that the medical record were fake)

so all indicate that this is a suicide. But if people speak about murder is that in 2008 an internal investigation from the DCRG (I think it is like the NSA in USA but not sure) conclude to a "strange suicide" (the internal investigation is real or a fake document from someone else?)

It is nice you ask for more detail because the reality is that the story was most probably a suicide with some fake news trying to make it strange (and I remember only the fake news part).

But it could be another story because I strongly remember that a rifle was used for the suicide, because some people prove that you cannot simply use the rifle to inflict yourself such injury. (maybe it was another story with someone killing himself with a rifle at the same time and my memories wrapped them together: making a double shot in the head with a rifle.)
