It cost a shitton, that is for sure.
You can do smaller upgrades, however, something as a motherboard + CPU or GPU upgrade is not possible. Something like more memory or bigger/additional harddisk is still possible.
Do people actually see mac OSX as an inferior OS than windows?
I would prefer mac OSX over windows due to its similarities towards *nix.

AFAIK you will run into troubles trying to install mac OSX on AMD x86 CPUs/APUs.
Lots of people are building hackintoshs.
I know fewer people installing windows on a mac computer (again, unless you truly are going for the apple hardware design, this would be stupid).
