Docker is a sort of virtual machine (to not go too much into details) that allow you to create a small and isolateur instance on your computer to run a service of any kind (web server, database, proxy, you name it). Unlike a virtual machine tho, you basically only run the service, and not the full operating system. Its been a standard in industry for like 15 years.
