If you pull on one side you can actually wiggle out the base ring with the cap. I recomend throwing the base ring to the mixed trash for added pleasure.

You can rip just one side and use the second one as a lever to pull the bottom ring out of the frame. That way, you dont get stabbed in lips when you drink and you can throgh the bottom ring into garbage to not be recycled.
