There's a now no longer canon story called Bloodlines, in which a jedi who (thinks he) befriended Palpatine and his apprentice discuss their idea with Palpatine to get everyone in the senate tested on their midichlorians account. Palpatine says most senators would object to the plan, to which the master states how much of a powerful statement it would be if Palpatine would be the first one tested publically. Palpatine says he has to consider the idea and asks the jedi not to discuss their plan with anyone else yet, to which they agree. Then Palpatine makes sure they get sent to a battle where an overwhelming amount of hostile reinforcements show up, to make sure they die and don't share their idea with others.
