Because they don't die fast enough for natural selection. They have to die before they can reproduce before it turns into an evolutionary pressure. As it stands now, being obese doesn't really affect your reproduction rate aside from finding a partner.

That one is a problem with the english language (or rather most spoken languages). A correct formulation would be:
The bigger my quantity of cheese is, the bigger the absolute number of holes in that quantity of cheese. = A statement about amounts
The more holes per quantity of cheese I get, the less cheese I have per quantity of cheese. = A statement about densities
Then the equation in the last part doesn't work anymore because equating absolute amounts with densities makes no sense.
