i think wether you like it or not life is getting closer to what you call a robotic lifestyle (it could happen i our near future 10-20 years ). it wont be the only phone around for sure, different products suits different needs, and the argument you said is missing or lacking is the argument itself , the human need to experience new designs or create them (thats why in prehistoric times tools where modified stones and now highly specialiced tools), but not any design an intuitive useful and easy design.

...and the phone offers a new design it allows people to have a phone that adapts to their lifestyle, and easier interchangeable parts to repair or upgrade, thus increasing the phone lifetime - sorry for grammar mistakes.
