Dude's been suffering from depression and made two films expressing his experience with the condition. What I guess he's trying to say is that he understands how the painter must've felt by the end of his life locked inside his bunker. The problem is he is telling his story like your drunk grandpa would and also tries to use his iconic Scandinavian humor to lighten the mood while he's getting to the point.
