Technically this does not violate any law of physics. The arrow had momentum moving in one direction, known as a vector force. It is possible to change the direction of a vector force by the application of another angular force directed perpendicular the the direction of the original force in such a way that it retains its momentum. You actually do this every time you turn the steering wheel of your car (and aren't pressing the gas), it keeps moving "forward" but in a different direction because the tires' friction with the road is applying a turning force. It is possible (if you do it quickly enough) to apply an angular force to a moving object such that that object makes a 180 degree turn while retaining most of its momentum.
