put it this way, it makes some sense, however: people calling themselves socialists are pushing really similar market policies as in the 3rd Reich, and call me a bootlicker libertarian howdydoodee no step on snek, but more government control is socialism in my eye. Each time governments write legislation for more control over the market it is coated in a social-benefit icing.

Well yes since the means of production weren't entirely state owned he wasn't a socialist just a wannabe socialismaboo. Even then, he did a pretty good job: shooting civilians, spying on civilians, banning demonstrations against the government, banning other parties, locking up/killing political opponents, persecuting minorities (true gamer), introducing labour camps.
