They did implement it into the world nicely. However the trajectory of how things are going is benders can't do jack, and is a full blown mecha. Where it'll be about the new tech determines everything. In my opinion kind of ruins the point of the avatar, where it'll get to the point of "may as well be watching any of the other mass amounts of mecha anime out there"...
