I urge everyone who likes this concept to give the manga Spirit Circle a try.
Kid meets cute girl, girl reveals she is kid's ancestral nemesis and forces him to relive many lifetimes of mutual trauma, hatred and destruction.
Art often looks disarmingly like a standard shonen, while story is often unhinged, and the way it all comes full *spirit* circle is genuinely fantastic. At 45 chapters, it's damn short read too.
