Romania cannot stand alone as it is so it has to choose a side. EU may not be perfect, but I'm sure as hell not siding with a country whose president has ruled for 5 and a half terms consecutively. Not to mention the lack of freedom of speech, lack of free media and wrongful imprisonment of peaceful protesters. Some time ago EU countries were interested in making an army of the EU outside of NATO. USA was against it because why pay twice for the same thing.
