You are right. It would be a mistake to ignore his creativity and to not let him create something around it. He has talent and definitely a creative mind.

I think my fear is not that the story changes, after all as you said yourself it will change no matter what. But it is that the mystery is no more, that a definitive and logical explanation is set for the backrooms (Scientific experiment gone wrong? Etc etc...).

The story can advance, but it should not reach an end. The moment it does the whole spirit of it dies.

I understand. The kid got some talent and his first video was really nice. It was on point to the original backroom creepypasta/greentext post. But yeah things got out of hand, thanks to popularity, and the mystery as well as the creepiness behind is completely gone now.
