It is defined as confrontation with death (acutal death or threatened with), severe trauma or sexual abuse (DSM V). Then there is a big list as to how the patient response to those triggers to diagnose it as PTSD.
Im no psychiatrist and do not know if severe emotional abuse as a child can lead to similar symptoms of ptsd ( such as flashbacks, nightmares, physiological responses and avoidance of stimuli).
Or he has some childhood trauma that is not told here, idk raped / abused.
It is used more frequently than earlier, maybe its becoming a blanket diagnose like adhd and autism, but the official criteria are still pretty strict.
