I usually go for a sniper build, but in FO4 sniper rifles just plain sucked, even with all the right perks. I gave up completely when I found a combat shotgun with the explosive effect. Called it Limbs-and-torso Separator (because that's what it did in a single shot).

Incidentally, game ceased* to be a challenge afterwards. The weapon was ridiculously OP. Brought down Legendary Deathclaws in 5-6 shots.
