Pessimism and realism aren't mutually exclusive. Being a victim of big corpos ***ing everything and everyone already (big corpos buying up the housing market, medicine getting more expensive, food getting more expensive and worse at the same time, turning everything into subscriptions, retroactively changing ToS, all your devices spying on you for marketing, etc etc etc.) I'd like for ppl to see that the LLM, genAI boom is not a force for good, but instead another tool that will be used against us (or rather, already is)
I already tell people not to buy internet connected cars, ovens, fridges, lamps, etc. If I had any power I'd tear down Monsanto, meta, amazon, etc.

Remember kids: big corpo's are not your friends; updates are not upgrades, billionaires wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire, and guillotines werr a good idea.

Yeah I'm obviously using the common language shorthand of AI=LLM, since hell, technically speaking, even the NPSs in 30 year old video games have "AI". Besides, I work in the cutting edge high tech sector, you wouldn't know how little most people even in my sector know of this jargon.

Protein folding research is hardly new, nor is weather forecasting. MRI screening is a good thing, but your statement about yearly MRIs shows you have never even talked to anyone in a hospital. Even if they were available, there's a reason why most doctors would advise against pre-screenings.

As for the other points:
Improving search engines: the root of the problem lies elsewhere. Do you really think there won't come a point where 90% of LLM answers will be ads?
Fraud/corruption detection tech implemented by the corrupt elite. Wow. So useful. Definitely not going to be used to find all the technically illegal acts we all commit, while covering up for the actual crimes of the rich few. you know. Like already happens. Skmething about financial crises, global politics and some Jeff guy.

coming back to search engines; google is ***ing up on purpose to get more money, but other search engines are in a losing battle against LLM SEO slop. Both in text and images. Making it incredibly much harder to find reliable information. Therefore de-democratising access to knowledge.

So yes, I used some hyperbole. Sure. So lets say this; if you take the average, of use case weighted by amount of investment, you'll see it's corporations that do not have our best interest at heart, be they the military industrial complex, spy agencies, or venture capital.

Especially considering literal cancers like papantir, using chatgpt-like-models in warfare and missiles. All big AI companies have deals with the US army. If you would try arguing this is a good thing, you are already too far gone, chlorinate your gene pool

Some technologies have mainly bad outcomes. Nuclear bombs have their legitimate uses. Zyklon B has its legitimate uses. Doesn't mean it's mostly good. Hell, most of the scum on death row probably has some talent.

My point is that thw world was better off before this retarded AI explosion.

Neural networks have their uses. Video generators and text generators do not.

Nah fam, this is a home grown, no-***-involvement opinion. Not everyone who disagrees with you has been astroturfed.

People generating memes helps these models train. That's called free labour. I also highly doubt this video generation shit was run locally on your computer, considering the watermark, saar.

It's funny how you say AI helps people on the job market, considering how many jobs it has been trying to destroy lately
