also, take note to some special qualities possesed by some fairly common animals such as starfish and lizards wich can regenerate complete bodyparts, what if we could transmit those qualities to humans?
scientists can already grow functional organs out of stemcells.
so maybe one day a highly contagious disease will break free, making people rabid, biting and eating eachother, staying alive with missing limbs (the blood would somehow coagulate abnormally fast so the person would not bleed to death) for long periods of time.
so i'm not saying it will happen, but it's not impossible
