I asked him specifically just to find out if he knows what he's talking about, or if he just simply writes some bullshit about macs just to look cool.

From my experience it's a good unix-based system with user-friendly interface. Personally I wouldn't use any mac as my main system (too expensive, low upgradability and, as mentioned before, no gaming capabilities). If i could afford it though, I would surely use for instance 13 inch MBP as a compact and solid portable machine for small tasks on the go, considering that main languages I use (R, Python) work jus fine on os x.
