Logan's healing factor helped him survive the transplant. After it his healing abilities have been greatly reduced because of the metal skeleton. You see the metal poisons his blood and the healing factor is constantly battling the blood poisoning. So in a way if he lost it he can live but not indefinetly, he'll die when the blood poisoning gets him.

not exactly the grand army of the republic was restructured to make the imperial army but they stopped the production of jango fett clones after the restructuring and started admitting regular humans into the army so after the galactic civil war only about 1/3 of the imperial army were clones , the rest were recruits from imperial academies set up all over the empire
