What other options are there? Imagine you are the president of a superpower. Another superpower is expanding its military presence towards you. When you express your concerns through diplomatic channels, you are repeatedly told "don't care, didn't ask, open doors policy, anyone can join our alliance (except you)" (I am not even interested in arguing whether this really happened in 2021-2022, consider this a hypothetical). At what point would you consider initiating a war? Or are you of the opinion that you can only deploy troops when you are attacked?
As for Georgia/Abkhazia and such, this is a very old conflict. Even before USSR dissolved Abkhazia tried to separate itself from Georgia (while staying a part of USSR). It will never cease to amuse me that it is considered to be absolutely okay for Georgia to separate itself from USSR, but absolutely not okay for Abkhazia to then separate itself from Georgia...
