It is just earth not enlightened by the sun. A moon shadow on the earth is an eclipse.

I guess the decission was made because if you have "armies" in the title much more people who did not read the books will go in the cinema.
I think it´s legit to make it more of a childrens film, because it IS a childrens book.
But all that stuff with Azog, that elf-woman, fancy eye "Legolas" and so on is just riddiculous..
But anyway i´m looking forward to this movie.
We are going to see dwarf and elf armies clashing in front of this epic mountain.
Ah yes.. and of course smaug dies!
