well the "path of least resistance" would be through the wire AND your body. So although a lot of current would go through the wire, some would go through your body. Also you would burn your fingers. So it's all about the fuse you are using, it will burn due to the high current.

....that's something completely different. In that case there is a resistor in the screwdriver and it's only µA of current. That small currents can return to the power socket through the ground or through the air.
Do you want to say, if you have many parallel resistors, there is current ONLY in the smallest one?

current runs between two ends with different potential. As long as you are not touching the ground (not the ground of your house, earth, 0V, kinda wet and big) the resisdence goes to infinity and from I = V / R -> no current.
