I can't say I agree that alcohol is not necessary to have fun. I couldn't stand most of my friends sober (I can barely tolerate them drunk tbh). I don't really care for board games or cards (and they're not that popular where I live to begin with), so there's pretty much only one thing that unites us -- and it also happens to be one of the few things that help me manage my stress (temporarily).

the thing is, alcohol might actually be the safest thing to drink.
coffee will get you coked up and tea will get you gayed up -- and soda is just liquid candy that doesn't even taste that good.

is it healthy not to drink? yes.
will you see a benefit if you quit alcohol entirely? probably not big enough to warrant total abstinence.

alcohol has been a part of humanity pretty much since we know about humanity -- you won't find texts about Moses or Socrates blazing it 420, but you will find that almost every other text references wine.
not to mention, making wine and beer is considered a craft; you won't find the same belief held about people that grow weed.
and wine is healthy if taken in small doses (smt about blood pressure idk I don't drink for health anyway).

I don't think I should aim to drink less this year for the simple fact that I don't drink that much any year; only once in a few months, and even then I don't get smashed.

I'm not defending drinking, and I'm definitely against high schoolers drinking (which has been the norm since when I was in high school ~2014), but I don't think teetotaling is necessarily the way to go.
