Its the George Lucas version of the new SW7 trailer. Then you'll immediately notice, that J.J. Abrams is doing things right. Also, it is a teaser trailer, you don't even see much of the film, how can you already hate it?

Please explain how that trailer was weak.

GUIZE, the main reason for this to be added into the movie is: it looks cool and standard lightsaber is too old. At least they thought so.
Also, this has been in the star wars universe for ages, it's just the first time in a movie.

In case of star wars the bad guy or yoda needs to say "strong you have become, the dark side I feel in you" while locking swords.
