Not really. At this point is just easier to use the same count and remove the religious aspect out of it instead of deciding a different arbitrary point in time for a new calendar.

Several other calendar systems already existed. The current one just was almost worldwidely adopted, but not everyone in the world believes in the same myths. No need to keep linking a civil calendar with one religion.

You must be joking if you think people will still using 970/980 and 280x/290 by the time anything higher than 1080p/1440p becomes the standard for gaming.

Mantle wasn't "advancing the industry". AMD tried to make their own substitute to Direct X, not revolutionise the way it works, yet they failed. Anything else that's not EA doesn't use or care about Mantle.
