The roman republic and the following empire was the last great empire the world had seen. Everyone that came after are just cheap copies. The SPQR shaped the western society and we can see the influence even 1500 years after its fall in our languages, politics, economy, architecture, military, science, medicine, art, philosophy and religion. The british empire was just ***ing indians and selling opium to china. No one should leave you alone with kids.

The British Empire is arguably the most influential empire/culture in history, the true legacy of which cannot be measured in graphs.
Influential civilisations throughout history could be the Persian Empires, The Romans, Chinese Han Dynasty, Mongol Empire and Spanish Empire all superpower civilisations that had huge effects on their vast spheres of influence over prolonged periods of time.
The British Empire was the world’s first global superpower, later becoming the only hyper power in world history. Beginning in the early 16th century with North American and the Caribbean, and reaching its zenith between 1815 and 1922 known as the “Imperial Century”. The relinquished control of Hong Kong in 1997 is viewed as the end of the Empire.
• Almost 1/3 of all countries in existence today were formed or founded by the British
• This includes many major cities, for example New York, Boston, Sydney, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vancouver etc..
• Maritime laws governing all ships at sea were set by the British 200 years ago
• Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) is still the worlds time standard, meaning all clocks are set to British time
• British legal system ‘trial by jury’ is used by ~25% of the world
• Over half the world’s nations use the British Democratic system of parliamentary democracy
• Sports founded in the UK include the world’s most popular, football, cricket (2nd most) rugby, golf, badminton, rounders, snooker and tennis
The Japanese Department of Trade and Industry (MITI) launched a massive project to list all of the major inventions currently used by humans, of which 54% (more than every other nation combined) had been invented and developed by the British. Japans own share was approximately 5%.
These inventions include, but are not limited to: The light bulb, Telegraphs, the tyre, carbon fibre, the world wide web, steam engine, telephone, television, railways, tanks, jet engines, the modern bike, *THE FLUSH TOILET* (you can thank the Empire for not shitting in a hole), and the world’s first computer. In other words British influence impacts every single aspect of every single persons lives on Earth every day.
Edward Jenner was the pioneer of the smallpox vaccine, the world’s first, and is often said to have saved more lives than any other human in history. Alexander Fleming comes in close with his development of penicillin.
In 1833, The British Empire used 40% of its national budget to buy freedom for ALL slaves in the Empire. Britain borrowed so much money for this slavery abolition act that it wasn’t paid off until 2014.
Britain also started the industrial revolution, catapulting the world into the modern era single handed.

tl:dr suck it scrub rule Britannia

That's not something you learn with the BLM movement...

So you mean we should thank ancient greece for inventing the scientific method, the legal system trial by jury, the olympics and democracy. Yeah that would be right. Greece played a huge role, maybe even bigger than ancient rome, for the developement of modern humanity.

Yeah, because Britain is known for it's cultural achievements. It's art, it's opera, it's architecture and it's writings are famous all over the world. Oh wait, that's wrong, that's Italy. Oh, and at least in the points music and writings even Germany exceled Britain.

(I agree on the importance of Hobbes, Locke and Smith, though. And am highly impressed by the technological achievements.)
