I had two disagreements with you and they were several months ago. I am somewhat flattered that I left such a lasting mark, but perhaps it is better for you to move on. Perhaps you don't need to hate someone or something all the time.

Insultingly short story: Afghanistan voted communist, Islamists rose up, Soviet sent "help", US sent stinger missiles and trained islamist fighters to mess with the Soviets, one of whom coincidentally was Osama bin Laden.
In the end Afghanistan was the Soviet Unions Vietnam.

Well its not that false either. Like in most good conflicts ethnicity had a strong impact, as most communist sympathizers were from different ethnic groups than the islamists or seperatists.
Contrary to what most people believe there is no "afghan people" its actually dozens of different ones, and especially those in the south have often had stong ties with the northernmost minority of Pakistan which was a safe haven for many mujahadeen who were later replaced by Osama bin Ladens Tabliban.

Thats an interesting point that I have not encountered so far. Which era do you mean when you talk about the afghan identity to have coaleced somewhat, the democratization under the monarchy, or the time of the republic after the king was ousted?

Well I have always been very interested in geostrategy, geopolitics, as well as history. Also I work in politics, so keeping an eye on the more interesting parts of the world is usually kinda useful.
