I'm sure these fine young gentlemen own those guns legally and have been raised well by their fathers.

there are more gun home accidents than gun home defences
Scry · 7-Year Club · 2 points · 3 years ago
That disproves the point though.
falcomaster3001 · 1 points · 3 years ago
what point? im completely antiguns btw, i think that if you want to kill a man you should do it with your own hands, if not ur a ***ing pussy for needing tools to help out on a fair fight. (murder is wrong, but at least have honor)

I would say its hypocritical to believe that people shouldnt be trusted with guns and also say that everyone over 18 (or even younger in some countries) should be eligible or even obligated to join the military
I believe it should be legal provided that the buyers go though some sort of examination, similar to a drivers license

So what the US has.
SilverTalon17 · Poster of the Year · 2 points · 3 years ago
I am not familiar with US gun laws
isnt it different from state to state?

Yeah, but in the "crazy right wing everyone has a gun" states they run background checks and some sort of basic training to get a gun. The other states are more restrictive but they can't go too far due to muh constitution. they would, though.
DrBrohunt · 1 points · 3 years ago
Are you sure about that? My state (Wisconsin) allows people to buy and even open carry a gun without any kind of permit. Wisconsin is a swing state btw, we're hardly crazy right wing.

I'm from a country where you cannot purchase a gun at your local supermarket.
Still, doesn't prevent criminals from getting what they want.
I thing it's safer not to authorize everyone to have guns, because a lot of people couldn't handle the dangerosity of the thing.
Is there more crimes in country where you can easily have access to guns ? I don't know.
But limiting access to it doesn't make them magically disappear from your country. So only "bad guys" will have guns. And hunters. And cops. And military forces.
Everyone except you.
If you want to commit crimes you will. Guns or not.
(Not a specialist either if someone has statistics I'm open to learn about them)

My country was in top 10 of estimate of civilian firearms per 100 persons, according to wikipedia. In 2019 a law was passed that severely limited gun ownership, it is nearly impossible now for ordinary civilians to own guns.
Nothing changed, crime wise.

Do people had to give their guns back or a lot of them still have them ?
I mean, it could make a difference.
Otherwise, I'm not convinced that banning gun would prevent people from killing each other. There will always be guns around there, there will always have people selling guns...
Look at drugs or alcohol or whatnot. You can ban them... But people will still find a way to get them, legaly or not so...

I think the (violence-)crime rate has not much to do with the "weapon-rate" in the end.
The USA for example has a murder rate of ~ 5 per 100.000 people (per year I think) while switzerland has a rate of ~0.5. (switzerland has ~2.5M private guns on less than 9M people, so it's not exactly free of guns either).

it's almost like crime is more related with poverty and inequality than to gun ownership.

Dont forget that the swiss governement quite literally gives you a free "sniper rifle" for your 18 birthday.
Also buying a gun is easy in switzerland - basically everybody without major psychological disability and an empty crime record can buy one.
The main difference between switzerland and the usa is that in there is a general fear of guns on the us while male swiss get trained in gun controll during service. If people are uneasy or scared of something, accidents and abuse will happen.
Its basically the same debate with british knives. The knive i give to 8 year old children to carve wood will give me jailtime in the uk

Every (ex-)gun user flinches a little bit in pain when looking at the ladys trigger disciplin tho.
Especially if she's not willing to shot and not even looking where she is pointing the damn thing.
It's a badass boomer-wallpaper tho. I loved the memes back than.

Yes and no, if the people are uneasy around guns, bad things are designated to happen. If people are informed/calm around them, nobody gets hurt.
Best example would be switzerland. If you take public transports on a sunday evening/monday morning you will drive with ton of open carried guns.
My suggestion would be trying out shooting a gun by yourself and see how it works (but do it under guidance of a professional)

Cool, thats a really adult thing to do. You can still say if you like it or not afterwards
Just be sure that you do it under professional guidance and dont just shoot on cans in yoir backyard - way to many dumb accidents happened that way.

Saying that more guns is going to keep anyone safe is like saying more cars will prevent accidents from happening. Which is bs, it's not the guns or the cars, it's people.
I think that more guns means more firearm accidents, more heat of the moment shootings, more guns available to be stolen by school shooters etc.
But hey, it doesn't matter what I think. Only what the friendly NRA says, the same NRA whose members probably own stock in all the big weapon manufacturers and oppose every gun control measure.

I mean.. Criminals already have guns so it shouldn't get that much worse
plexus · Commenter · 5 points · 3 years ago
What? No! I'd argue very few criminals have guns in europe. How do you even define a criminal? Why would you automatically get a gun when you do something illegal? Do (small) weed dealers in europe have guns? No. Do weed dealers in the US have guns? I guess. More guns, more problems.
Alabasta · Pepe Collector · OP · 2 points · 3 years ago
If the criminal wants the gun he'll get a gun. Me and you however are gun less in case we should be armed. You have to weigh options. That's also why it's not easy for me to decide where I stand on this topic.

The biggest killer of the past 2 centuries is the state. Americans have guns so they have a fighting chance against an overly aggressive government. And stop bringing the military into question, they will never be deployed on US soil, against US population. Whoever thinks this issue is about criminals is retarded.
Alabasta · Pepe Collector · OP · 1 points · 3 years ago
Did I say anything about the military? Quite sure I never did..
