I think I've also just grown out of my own edgy anti-woke phase that I had in my late teens to the point I've moved on from the both of them. Drinker especially blames today's bad media as a result of writers being more liberal and prioritizing "the message" over substantial storytelling, and while I can't prove that as being totally inaccurate, I think more of the fault lies in big studio execs having a stranglehold on everything while also being tone deaf with what their audiences want - though in their defense, today's political climate does make that difficult to gage and so they will often go the boring safe route down the middle rather than leaning to either extreme.
Disney is obviously the biggest culprit for this - they have become so scared of doing anything innovative at the fear of upsetting people and losing money that they are now resorting to cashing in on nostalgia by remaking beloved classics. Or look at how they're bringing RDJ back to the MCU as Dr Doom.
Speaking of the MCU, some MCU directors having gone on record stating that they have little freedom to offer creative input (or ya know, actually direct their projects) and that it's more the producers like Kevin Feige who direct the movies and shows so that they all retain a sense of synergy to them - the downside to this being that nothing feels unique.
On top of that, there's the usual unfair treatment of the filmmakers - overworked and underpaid VFX artists, writers that get sacked in mass layoffs. And that's not just the film industry but especially prevalent in gaming. My point is, I blame the greedy lazy corpos at the top who want to save every possible buck rather than pointing the finger at the entire left side of the political spectrum.
F*ck Cinemasins though, we can agree on that.
