Hitler didn't get accepted, because he wasn't making art. Technically he was ok, but you can get "art" like his for 150€ at every corner.
Also: being able to paint what's in front of you doesn't make you an artist. It makes you a camera.

Edit: Some research later I found that his talent was appreciated, they just didn't like his way of drawing people. It seems to be a modern pov to say his art is worthless from an artistic perspective.

Not without context. The "fountain" was art, because the artist was already known for his well-crafted art and insisted on exhibiting the urinal - mainly to show how stupid it was to open the exhibition to "anything".
Also making a point is an art in itself.
