well earth is like 70% water. we gotta do something with it

I remember when I first learned how a nuclear reactor produced energy that it felt kinda stupid, but it does make sense:

The released energy from nuclear fission is primarily thermal, unfortunately (I'm just gonna discount the photonic energy in the form of x-rays / gamma-rays). Converting thermal energy to any other form is always least efficient due to entropic losses, but hey: Shoot atom with neutron, get fast, smaller atoms...that's just how it is.

A typical electrical generator functions on the principle of electromagnetic induction: You need to create a periodically changing magnetic field that passes through a piece of metal to induce a current in it.

=> Create thermal energy by shooting slowed thermal neutrons at 235U.
=> Heat up water to power water turbine.
=> Water turbine spins magnet.
=> Magnet creates oscillating magnetic field.
=> Highly portable energy (electric) created from a raw, thermal energy source without any CO2 emissions at about 10^5 higher energy density per mass of fuel.

The reason this seems dumb is because we need energy to be produced "just in time" (due to our inability to efficiently store energy for long periods of time in electrical form), and because, thus far, *thermal* primary sources (such as uranium, coal and oil) are the only ones capable of covering our energy demand. Technically coal and oil are chemical forms of energy, but you need to burn them, to create heat, so that you can heat up water etc. etc. you know the drill by now.

This is steampunk with extra steps then

Depends. Do you convert to electrical energy in steampunk or do you use kinetic energy? A steam locomotive converts chemical => thermal => kinetic by moving gas pistons attached to wheels. I don't know how steampunk works...

I think in ultimate instance you do.

Nah it's just a meme bro. The fact that water is a day to day thing doesnt make it any less ideal as a reusable thermal substance. Its heat capacity and regeneratibility are the best we can get basically

Reject MONKE
Ascend to STEAM

I was so disappointed as a kid when I learned that nuclear power plants wast generating power via steam instead some whacky radioactive futuristic shit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_fluid_reactor

the primitive core energy era is soon to end. but my country is too ideological stupid to push it like it should. so pls invest guys.
